Neil Burns

Recruitment in the Life Science,  Informatics and Automation markets

Neil, along with Jonathan Cooper, co-founded george james ltd in 1999. Since this time Neil has successfully completed multiple recruitment projects across the life science, software and instrumentation industries. Projects cover Europe and range from senior field specialist to board level appointments. Neil is also involved in training, in particular one on one coaching programmes.
 
Prior to this Neil spent 16 years in various sales. marketing and general management positions working with Packard Biosciences, Perkin Elmer Applied Biosystems and MDS Sciex. Experienced in capital equipment, consumables, reagents and services in the life science, general analytical and process markets. At Packard Biosciences Neil was responsible for all European direct and distributor operations  with revenues of >$100M and >150 employees. Neil has a degree in Medicinal Chemistry.

Jonathan Cooper
 
Sales Training and Performance Coaching across all markets

Jonathan, along with Neil Burns, co-founded george james ltd in 1999.  Jonathan heads up the training arm of the business and develops and delivers a wide range of successful sales and management focussed training programmes in scientific and technology markets.  In addition to delivering bespoke training solutions for individual clients Jonathan is also regularly involved in Performance Coaching programmes where he works on a one to one basis with Managers and Directors.

Prior to this Jonathan spent 14 years in various sales and marketing, field based and management roles initially with Perkin Elmer in the UK and subsequently with VG Instruments and Gas Measurement Instruments in Europe and North America gaining a great deal of experience in a range of markets including Pharmaceutical, Semiconductor, Nuclear, Water, Oil and Gas, Chemical and Academia for a wide range of instruments, reagents, consumables and services.   At Gas Measurement Instruments Jonathan was a board member responsible for global Sales and Marketing and with his fellow Directors successfully raised funding from the private equity and venture capital company 3i in a management buyout.  Jonathan has a degree in Chemistry.

Jayne McLaughlin

Jayne joined george james ltd in 2005 .Jayne McLaughlin has a degree in Chemistry and an MBA. She has 8 years experience as a research scientist followed by 9 years in Pan European technical sales and marketing roles promoting high technology products to the Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, Food, Cosmetic, Chemical & Petrochemical market sectors.

Since 1993 Jayne has been a recruitment/ HR consultant where she has largely focussed on the life science and interrelated technology sectors.  Here Jayne has applied her broad scientific and business experience to successfully complete many international search assignments in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices, diagnostics, instrumentation, fine chemicals and the contract research sectors.

The range of her assignments has covered all functions from Discovery Research through Development, Clinical, Regulatory Affairs, QA, Manufacturing, Business Development, Sales and Marketing, Human Resources, Director and non executive roles.

Jayne also supports other george james ltd services in market research to carry out benchmarking, salary surveys and attitude surveys. Jayne’s role in the HR consulting services also includes psychometrics, aptitude testing, assessment centres, personal coaching and supporting the retention strategies, career development, performance management, and succession planning evaluation and development services. Jayne operates in recruitment, HR services and coaching from first line management to board room appointments. Jayne’s knowledge of her sectors, deep experience and dedicated commitment adds real value to the service we deliver to our clients

David joined george james ltd early in 2007 after a spell running his own business. His focus is in recruitment where he both manages projects and provides research support to his colleagues across the life science, analytical, software and general laboratory equipment markets.

David has over 20 years experience at senior managerial level with Perkin Elmer and Vicon Motion Systems of Oxford UK where he was responsible for their global Life Science Business. At Perkin Elmer David worked with the UK Sales and Service team in various sales and marketing roles. He was also as part of the Molecular Business unit, a global product group responsible for the UV product line. David is an experienced sales and marketing professional who has successfully recruited staff at a senior level, he is a Chemistry Graduate out of Sheffield University.

He has experience in Private equity financing, M&A and divestitures, Corporate partnering and International roll-out. His focus is on the global Life Sciences industry sector; biopharma, diagnostics (clinical and industrial), medical devices, tools, analytical technologies. He currently has Board membership including a Chairmans role and mezzanine activity between Board and executive management.

Alans previous employment history covers a 29 year commercial career. Starting from a technical background in Medical Microbiology and Clinical Pathology, he has worked with 5 US corporations (NYSE and NASDAQ), 2 European (including co-founding of venture backed start up) and held Senior executive/officer level positions (VP, CEO, Board). He has experience of international Operations, Marketing & Sales, and R&D. Alan has been located for extensive periods in the Far East, US (East Coast, West Coast and mid West) and in Europe - UK, Germany, France, Nordic

In the course of his commercial career he has incorporated eleven companies and created five international divisions in technology products/sectors serving on 13 Boards including Chairman role.

Alan is a Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences, a member of the Institute of Directors and an affiliate to George James Ltd.

“Marby” has worked with george james ltd since 2005 specialising in telephone based market research. Services include lead generation/qualification, database creation/cleanup, market/customer research, exhibition follow up, conference/seminar attendance.
 
Prior to this Marby was at Gyros AB, a start up company, as a senior European product specialist responsible for pre and post customer support across Europe. She was instrumental in coordinating technical interactions between several seed sites across Europe and Gyros R&D as well as implementations of customer training programmes and representing the company at technical meetings. Marby has also worked for BiacoreAB and Bio-Rad Laboratories in both sales and support roles. Marby has a PhD in Protein Biochemistry from Warwick, from where she moved to Oxford Brookes to carry out Postdoctoral research
